On Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth, Son of Abacus is the shop and workshop of furniture maker Dominic Brown, who has been trading from the same premises since 1988. Dominic restores and refinishes antique and second-hand furniture, repairs and revives customers’ own pieces, and makes furniture to order, mostly in pine. He gives well-made furniture a second life rather than letting it go to waste, which is an approach we share wholeheartedly at Upcycle Interiors.

If you have an awkward alcove, an unusual space or a one-off idea, Dominic takes on bespoke commissions, often using reclaimed materials. His shop is always packed with freshly restored stock, so it’s well worth a visit before you buy new. It’s open Fridays and Saturdays, or by appointment.
